As the first large-scale, inter-state war in Europe since the end of the Cold War, the Russia-Ukrainian Conflict shocked many countries -especially European countries -overturning their views on international politics, war and peace. The position, attitude, and policy various countries took not only reflect their diverging ideas about the future of global order but will also affect its formation in the future. Given China’s status on the world stage, it is of utmost importance to take a deep dive into China's attitude toward the war and the role it could play in resolving it.
In accordance with the project requirements and the provided list of questions, this report is divided into four parts:
The first part briefly reviews the evolution and development of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and uses modeling analysis to derive four possible outcomes of the conflict.
The second part summarizes 35 statements made by the Chinese government regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, analyzing the characteristics and essence of these positions.
The third part identifies key external factors that could influence the Chinese government's actions, including differing concepts of international order among countries, major nations’ policies toward China, and the battlefield situation. Based on these factors, the report assesses possible measures that the Chinese government could take to end the conflict and promote stable peace.
The fourth part compiles 43 important statements made by the German government concerning the Russia-Ukraine conflict, compares the positions of the Chinese and German governments, and provides suggestions on how the two governments can strengthen cooperation.
