Founded in 2013, the Grandview Institution is one of the most well-known independent think tanks in China, ranking 6th in the overall ranking of Chinese social think tanks in the 2018 CTTI Think Tank Report list jointly launched by Guangming Daily and Nanjing University. In 2020, the Grandview Institution ranked 70th for the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Think Tank Ranking.
The Grandview Institution adheres to the development concept of “Practice Knowledge - Zhiyuan”, and is committed to China’s security, stability and sustainable development, as well as the dialogue between China and other countries in the world with the attitude and practice of unity of knowledge and stability. The Grandview Institution insists on the guideline of “Objectivity, Depth, Foresight and Pragmatism”, based on comprehensive and accurate data, rigorous and profound analysis, and authoritative and practical policy recommendations, and strives to provide research support for high-level decision-making of the government and enterprises.
The research areas cover maritime security and development, comprehensive border management and peripheral security, Belt and Road investment opportunities and risk management, defense security and development, as well as China-Europe relations, China-US relations and Northeast Asia relations.
Internally, the Grandview Institution influences high-level decision-making through independent reports and data and information, and accepts research on major strategic topics commissioned by central decision-making departments such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Natural Resources. The Grandview Instituion also extends its decision-making consulting services to local governments in Beijing, Chongqing, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Jiangsu and Hainan, conducting research on the strategic positioning and development planning of provinces and cities, and helping local policy-making and industrial development. With its extensive international resources and rich experience in international cooperation, the Grandview Institution has planned and organized a series of small-scale international dialogues and medium-sized international seminars in Beijing and several localities, which have strongly promoted civil public diplomacy and local international cooperation.
Externally, the Grandview Institution has established close cooperation with more than a dozen world-class think tanks to conduct joint research and joint activities, and has hired more than a dozen well-known former foreign dignitaries, experts and scholars as foreign researchers. Through organizing the “China-US Relations Dialogue Series”, “China-Europe Relations Dialogue Series”,“China-Japan Relations Dialogue Series”,“China-South Korea Strategic Security Dialogue”,“China-India Relations Dialogue”,“The Grandview Instituiton-ASEAN Think Tank Dialogue”, and “Belt and Road Cooperation and Development Series” in order to establish a broader international dialogue and communication platform.
