On March 14, 2026, a delegation from Grandview Institution (GVI) arrived in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, commencing a series of exchanges with Ukrainian government agencies, think tanks, and international organizations.
On March 15, the delegation held a meeting with Oleksandr Chalyi, former First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine. The two sides exchanged views on arrangements for a ceasefire, how China could play a greater role in resolving the Russia–Ukraine conflict, and Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
Oleksandr Chalyi is a veteran Ukrainian diplomat with significant influence in Ukraine’s foreign and security policy circles. He has participated in or led a number of major negotiations, including Ukraine’s accession to the WTO, the establishment of a free trade relationship with the European Union, as well as political and border agreement negotiations with Russia and Romania. In 2022, he was a member of Ukraine’s peace negotiation team with Russia and took part in discussions on the Istanbul negotiation framework.
Members of the GVI delegation included Ren Libo, President of GVI; Mao Jing, Director of the European Studies Center; Wu Hao, Director of the Defense Studies Center; Senior Research Fellow Zhang Xin; and Senior Research Fellow Miao Zhongquan.
