On 6 November, an international student delegation from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, led by Prof. Li Mingjiang of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), visited Grandview Institution (GVI). Prof. Zha Daojiong, Peking University, delivered a lecture entitled “Energy Geopolitics: New Possibilities?”, analysing China’s energy security strategy and prospects for global energy cooperation.
Prof. Zha systematically outlined China’s energy development and strategic direction. He noted that China is actively promoting renewable energy industrialisation, with significant cost competitiveness improvements, while coal consumption is expected to peak soon. On the basis of ensuring domestic energy security, China is cooperating extensively with Global South countries on nuclear, hydropower, and photovoltaic projects to enhance their energy autonomy.
During the interactive session, students discussed risks in China–Russia energy cooperation, strategies for international expansion of China’s electric vehicle industry, and the feasibility of nuclear technology exports. Regarding negotiations on the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, Prof. Zha emphasised China’s adherence to market principles and diversification of supply. On electric vehicles, he highlighted the need for technological adaptation to local infrastructure rather than simple product export.
This exchange provided the visiting students with professional insights and case-based understanding of China's energy policy, and laid a foundation for future dialogue and cooperation in the energy field.
