On January 20, 2026, Ambassador Thomas Greminger, Director of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) and former Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), together with Alexandra Matas, Head of the GCSP’s International Security Dialogue Department, held an in-depth exchange with Ren Libo, President of the Grandview Institution(GVI), and Mao Jing, Director of the GVI’s European Studies Center, on the global security situation.
Ambassador Greminger noted that resolving tensions between NATO and Russia, and reshaping a cooperative and inclusive European security architecture, remain difficult long-term challenges. He observed that many of the OSCE’s core principles have been severely undermined, and that without an end to the Russia–Ukraine conflict, the OSCE will continue to weaken, while global power competition and systemic restructuring will face sustained turbulence and uncertainty.
The GCSP and the GVI also discussed the prospects for bilateral and multilateral dialogue and cooperation in areas such as the Russia–Ukraine conflict and arms control.
On January 21, Mao Jing, Director of the European Studies Center at the GVI, participated in a dialogue on rebuilding the European security order, jointly hosted by the GCSP and the Embassy of Switzerland in China.
