Jorge Toledo, Head of EU Delegation to China, visits GVI

On the morning of March 13, 2024, Jorge Toledo, Head of the EU Delegation to China, and officials from the EU Delegation to China and the EU External Action Service (EEAS) visited GVI and exchanged views with Shi Mingde, the former Ambassador of China to Germany, and GVI experts and scholars on the Sino-European relations, the Russo-Ukrainian war, and South China Sea issues.

Mr. Jorge Toledo expressed his views on China-EU relations and the role that the EU would like China to play in the world peace process. Mr. Shi Mingde, former Chinese Ambassador to Germany, said that China has always respected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, and insisted on promoting peace through talks in international disputes. There is a need to strengthen communication between China and the EU to reduce misunderstanding and prejudice.


Chinese representatives at the dialogue also included Cui Hongjian, a research fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Global Governance at Beijing Foreign Studies University, Zhao Chen, director of the International Relations Research Office at the Institute of European Studies, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and Liu Xiaobo, director of the Center for Maritime Studies at GVI. Foreign guests were Nicoletta Pusterla, Deputy Head of the China Unit of the EEAS, and Maria Linder, Minister Counselor of the EU Delegation to China. Mr. Ren Libo, GVI President chaired the meeting.
