Minister Counselor Ali Nemati pointed out that China and Iran, both ancient civilizations, have a long history of friendly exchanges and the two countries have been in continuous communication since the 2nd century B.C. China is not only a good neighbor but also a good brother and partner of Iran. Recently, Iran held an exhibition of Iranian cultural relics in the Palace Museum (the Forbidden City Museum), which testifies that the two civilizations have a lot in common and there are close cultural ties between China and Iran in ancient times, he added.

Throughout the history of interactions between the two peoples, Iran has functioned as a transit point across the Eurasian continent due to its favorable location at the intersection of the Eurasian continent. Persian merchants have acted as witnesses and builders of the ancient Silk Road for their outstanding ability and excellent quality. Because of this record of "mutual benefit and win-win", Iran highly appreciates China's "Belt and Road" Initiative. In line with this initiative, Iran has specially set up three corridors through the Central Asian countries. As its economy is highly complementary to the Chinese one, Iran hopes to carry out long-term strategic cooperation with China in energy and other fields to promote Sino-Iranian relations to a higher level and revitalize the ancient Silk Road in the 21st century.
