On Aug 16, Paul Grove, Clerk at the Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs under the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, visited GVI. Ren Libo, President of GVI, Zhang Tuosheng, Director of GVI’s Academic Committee, and Zhang Xiaoming, member of GVI’s Academic Committee, had in-depth exchanges with Mr. Paul Grove on China-U.S. relations and other issues.

The experts present agreed that it is particularly critical for both sides to stay in close communication and exchange at a time when China-US ties are facing many challenges. In spite of all the antagonisms, the two countries are still expected to cooperate in anti-drug, law enforcement, and response to global climate change, and both can use this as a breakthrough to explore ways of broader cooperation. Paul Grove said that on returning to the U.S., he would recommend that more members of Congress and their staffs visit China to enhance mutual understanding.

Ray Sudweeks, Acting Minister Counselor for Political Affairs, Matthew Yi, Acting Director of External Affairs, and Harry Thompson, Law Enforcement Policy Coordinator of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, along with Mao Jing, Director of Public Affairs of GVI, and Zhu Junwei, Director of the Center for American Studies of GVI, participated in the conference.
