On December 10, 2018, the foundation ceremony of Grandview Institution Academic Committee was held solemnly. The foundation of an academic committee is one of the most significant part of the new five-year plan initiated by the Grandview Institution, and is also an important achievement during the past five years. As the Supreme Research Leader of the Grandview Institution, the Academic Committee will exercise important rights and take responsibilities in five aspects: research planning, research methods, research quality, experts’network, and internal training.

‘Since its inception, the Grandview Institution insisted treat itself as a research-type think tank and stepped on a slow but sure development path. Because we realize that building up a long-last think tank requires a strong research basement,‘ Ren Libo, founder and president of Grandview Institution said at the ceremony, ‘Only by constantly consolidating the research foundation, improving the research quality, exploring research methods, and condensing high-end intelligence can we strive for stability and make the Grandview Institution a century-old think tank.
Zhang Yunling, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and a professor at Shandong University, was officially appointed as the Director of the Academic Committee of the Grandview Institution for a three-year term. Zhu Chenghu, Major General of National Defense University, Luo Xuye, researcher of the National Ocean Technology Center, Zhao Quansheng, professor of American University, Xu Qiyu, deputy director of the Institute of Strategic Studies of the National Defense University, Zhao Qinghai, Director of the Ocean Research Center, Zha Daojiong, Professor of the School of International Studies, Peking University, Xue Li, Director of the International Strategy Research Office of the Institute of World Economics and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhang Jie, Research Fellow of Asia-Pacific and Global Strategy Institute in Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, deputy director of the Regional Security Center, and Zhang Jingquan, deputy director of the Northeast Asian College of Shandong University, were appointed as members of the first National Academic Committee of Grandview Institution.
Zhang Yunling
Zhang Yunling, director of the Academic Committee of Grandview Institution said, ‘since Grandview Institution establishment in 2013, it has achieved at least two achievements: First, it has a certain influence in the think tanks in both domestic and international, and its influence is still expanding; the second is to find out their own clear development orientation and research fields, and produce a large number of research products in the areas including marine strategy and marine economy, comprehensive management and development of border areas, strategy of the Belt and Road, and investment environment in the various countries.
And the effort support related decision-making departments.’ He encouraged the Grandview Institution to continue to adhere to the positioning of independent think tanks, to take advantage of flexible mechanism and strong execution. On one hand to better serve the decision-making level, on the other hand, to publish research results to the society and overseas, and deliver a voice as a Chinese think tank.
Jiang Yihang
The foundation ceremony was hosted by Mr. Jiang Yihang, co-chairman of the Grandview Institution Decision Committee and former Senior Ocean Affairs Officer. The Academic Committee also reviewed and discussed the Annual Report topics, and discussed issues related to the internationalization work and the training of young researchers in the future.
